Quests reward you for completing specific objectives and encourage you to try a variety of decks. You can complete quests via games against people or the AI (including story mode).
Daily quests[]
One daily quest is given to you each day, whether or not you log in. You can also refresh (reroll) a quest once per day, which replaces it with a different daily quest. Uncompleted quests accumulate, with a maximum of three quests at a time.
Current daily quests (AKH)[]

On July 10, 2016 all daily quest rewards named "Champion of the ..." were nerfed from 120 to 80 . As Wizards_Chris stated these quests were designed to reward only 80 , but weren't displayed properly due to a bug.[1]
BFZ/OGW/SOI daily quests[]
Origins daily quests[]
- * "Outside of combat" means outside of the combat phase. Noncombat damage dealt during the combat phase doesn't count toward the quest.
- ** X/A and A/Y are either two ally color pairs or enemy color pairs, with one exception: instead of or being a possible combination, or was. These quests could only be completed with decks built using the Deck Wizard. The developers have confirmed that this was a bug.
Strategy[]
Due to the ability to reroll quests, you can try to maximize your coin rewards from quests by doing so. All quests are worth 60, 80 or 120 coins. Thus, it is always advantageous to reroll 60-coin quests, since no quests are worth fewer coins. Similarly, 120-coin quests should not be rerolled, since no quests are worth more.
Even though you might get a 60-coin quest instead, it is usually slightly advantageous to reroll 80-coin quests (if you have no 60-coin quest to reroll). Successfully turning a 80-coin quest into a 120-coin quest is a gain of 40 coins, but the other possibilities are generally no worse than not rerolling it (even turning it into a 60-coin quest isn't necessarily a loss since it can be saved and rerolled at a later date, likely turning it back into a quest worth at least 80 coins).
Community quests[]
A new community quest is given each week, with all players able to contribute to reach the goal. When the deadline is passed, if the goal was reached, each player who contributed to the quest receives the reward. Note that quests like Those Meld-ling Kids (meld 5000 permanents) can be contributed to by playing story mode, even if you don't have cards with Meld in your card collection.

Skill quests[]
A skill quest is a short tutorial meant to teach an aspect of gameplay. They are given during gameplay when the gameplay element is encountered. They can also be accessed via the help menu. Completing each skill quest for the first time gives you coins.
Name | Description | Reward |

The Basics | Welcome to Magic Duels. You are a Planeswalker, a powerful mage dueling across the myriad worlds of the Multiverse. | 30 |
Parts of the Turn | A turn in Magic is broken into several phases. At the start of your turn, you'll untap all your tapped cards and draw a card.
There are two main phases, one before combat and one after. Most spells can be cast only during one of your main phases. If a card in your hand is glowing, it means you can cast that spell or play that land. |
15 |
Group Blocking and Trample | You can have multiple creatures group together to block a single attacking creature. This is a good way to "gang up" on a larger threat. Your opponent chooses how the attacking creatures deal damage to your blockers.
Usually, an attacking creature will deal all its damage to the creature that blocked it. But a creature with trample can deal its excess damage to the defending player. |
15 |
Instants: Combat Tricks | Instants are tricky and can be cast at any time--on your turn, on your opponent's turn, even during combat! After you cast an instant, it has an effect on the game and then is put into the graveyard. For example, you could cast an instant after blockers have been chosen but before combat damage has been dealt. | 15 |
Enchantments | Enchantments are powerful cards that stay on the battlefield after you cast them. They have a wide range of effects. Some boost your creatures, while others make things more difficult for your opponent. Like most spells, you cast enchantment spells during your main phase. | 15 |
Enchantments: Auras | Auras are a special type of enchantment. Most attach to a single creature and affect only that creature. The enchant ability will tell you what that Aura attaches to.
You can target any creature with most Auras. Read each one to see how it affects the enchanted creature. If it has a negative effect, you can choose to attach it to one of your opponent's creatures. If the enchanted creature leaves the battlefield, the Aura is put into your graveyard. |
15 |
Counterspells | Some instants, such as Cancel, counter a spell. If a spell is countered, it's put into the graveyard and has no effect. Remember to stop the timer when you see the opponent's spell hovering over the battlefield. | 10 |
Activated Abilities | Some creatures have activated abilities, abilities that let you pay a cost at any time to have an effect on the game. These costs can include tapping the creature, paying mana, or sacrificing the creature by putting it into the graveyard. You can activate abilities at any time. Stopping the timer gives you more time to activate an ability. | 10 |
Triggered Abilities | Some abilities trigger whenever something else happens in the game. These are called triggered abilities. For example, many creatures have abilities that trigger when they enter the battlefield. If an ability triggers on an event you can repeat, such as playing a land, you can reap the rewards every time. | 15 |
First Strike | Normally, all attacking and blocking creatures deal combat damage at the same time. However, a creature with first strike deals its combat damage first, before creatures without first strike. This means a creature with first strike can often destroy an enemy creature before that creature gets the chance to hit back. | 15 |
+1/+1 Counters | Some cards put +1/+1 counters on creatures. A +1/+1 counter increases the creatures power and toughness by 1. These counters stay on the creature as long as the creature is on the battlefield. If the creature leaves the battlefield, the counters disappear. | 15 |
Flying and Reach | Some creatures have flying, which lets them soar above the battlefield. Flying creatures can be blocked only by other flying creatures or be creatures with reach. On defense, a creature with flying can block any attacking creature, either one with flying or one without. | 15 |
Graveyard Interactions | If one of your creatures dies, it's put into your graveyard. Instants and sorceries are also put into your graveyard after you cast them. Other cards can also be put there, such as cards you discard from your hand. Some spells and abilities can bring cards back from your graveyard. | 10 |
Deathtouch | A creature with deathtouch will destroy any creature it deals damage to. Even the mightiest behemoth won't survive a battle with a creature that has deathtouch. | 15 |
X-Spells and Repeatable Abilities | Some spells and abilities let you spend any amount of mana. A spell that has X in its mana cost lets you choose any value for X, so you determine how many lands to tap while casting that spell. The more lands you tap, the larger the effect. Similarly, a creature may have an activated ability that you can repeat by spending more mana. | 10 |
Equipment | Equipment cards represent weapons, armor, and other items you can give your creatures to make them better. Most artifacts, including Equipment, are colorless, so they go well in any deck.
During your main phase, you can pay the equip cost to attach the Equipment to a creature or move it from one creature to another. If the equipped creature leaves the battlefield, the Equipment stays behind, ready to be equipped to another creature. |
10 |
Lifelink | If your creature with lifelink deals damage, you'll gain that much life at the same time. Lifelink often gives you the life you need to slow down an aggressive opponent. | 10 |
Token Making | Some cards create creature tokens. They follow all the same rules creatures do. They can attack and block just like any other creature.
If a token leaves the battlefield, it disappears completely. Tokens never stay in your hand, your graveyard, or anywhere else. |
10 |
Planeswalkers | Planeswalker cards represent incredible allies that stay on the battlefield and fight for you. They each start with some number of loyalty counters, shown in the lower right corner of the card.
On each of your turns, during your main phase, you can activate one of your Planeswalker's abilities. These abilities will add to or subtract from your Planeswalker's loyalty. |
10 |
Awaken | Awaken is an alternative cost that appears on some spells in the form "Awaken N--[Cost]." You can pay the cost listed after the dash rather than the spell's normal mana cost (the mana symbols in the upper right corner). If you do, in addition to the spell's normal effects, you can turn one of your lands into a Elemental creature and N +1/+1 counters on it. For example, a spell with awaken 3 can turn one of your lands into a 3/3 Elemental creature that's still a land. | 10 |
Eldrazi Scions | Several cards in Battle for Zendikar create Eldrazi Scion tokens--1/1 creatures that attack and block just like other creatures, and they just might give you the mana you need to cast a truly devastating spell.
If you try to cast a spell and you don't have enough lands, you can make up the difference by sacrificing Eldrazi Scions. |
10 |
Mana Pool | Normally when you cast a spell, your lands tap automatically to pay for the spell's mana cost. However, your lands can produce mana almost any time.
Zoom in on a land to use its mana ability. You can use that mana, along with your untapped lands, to cast spells or activate abilities. |
10 |
Colorless Mana and | If you see a cost with the new colorless mana symbol (), you need colorless manato pay for it. Look for cards like Wastes that specifically produce colorless mana. Any mana, including colorless mana, can be used to pay for generic mana costs (shown with a numeral). | 10 |
Madness | If you discard a card with madness, you can cast it immediately instead of putting it into your graveyard. If you cast it this way, you pay its madness cost instead of its regular mana cost. | 10 |
The Graveyard and Exile | Creatures go to the graveyard if they're destroyed. This doesn't mean they stop being useful, however. Some cards bring creatures back from the dead or use them in other ways. If a card is exiled, it's set aside in a separate pile. Sometimes a card that exiles another card includes a way to bring that card back. | 10 |
Transform | When a card transforms, it gets turned over so that its back face is up. While a double-faced card is on the battlefield, only the characteristics of its face up matter. Some double-faced cards transform only once, while others go back and fourth during the game. | 10 |
Emerge | Emerge is a new ability that gives you an alternative way to cast colossal Eldrazi. Instead of the mana cost of a spell with emerge, you can sacrifice a creature and pay its emerge cost instead. But you get a discount: the emerge cost is reduced by the converted mana cost of the creature you sacrificed. | 10 |
Escalate | Spells with escalate are powerful and flexible. They each have multiple modes. Pay just the mana cost to choose one mode. Add in the escalate cost and add an additional mode. Why choose when you can have it all? | 10 |
Meld | Innistrad's new monstrosities include melded creatures — select pairs of cards that can combine into one horrifix creature. If a melded card leaves the battlefield, it separates into two cards again. | 10 |
Vehicles | The inventors of Kaladesh have pioneered awe-inspiring Vehicles, ready for battle! These artifacts can turn into artifact creatures for the turn with the help of a brave crew. Activate the crew ability by tapping any number of creatures you control with total power at least equal to the crew number. | 10 |
Energy | Energy counters () power many of the wondrous inventions on Kaladesh. When you get an energy counter, it goes into your energy reserve. Those counters stay there until you spend them. Most cards that give you energy also have an ability that lets you spend it. You can get energy counters from one card and spend them on another card's abilities. | 10 |
Improvise | You can tap artifacts you control to help cast a spell with improvise. Each one you tap pays for . | 10 |
Revolt | Revolt abilities have an additional or upgraded effect if a permanent you controlled left the battlefield during your turn. | 10 |
Aftermath | Cards with aftermath have two halves: the first half you cast from your hand, then the second half you can cast from your graveyard. After you cast the half with aftermath, the card is exiled. If you can cast a card with aftermath in your graveyard, the graveyard icon appears on the battlefield. | 10 |
Embalm | Death on Amonkhet is just the beginning. If a creature card with embalm is in your graveyard, you can exile it and pay the embalm cost to create a token copy of it. The journey to the afterlife does produce some changes though: The token will be white instead of its normal color and it will be a Zombie in addition to whatever it was the first time. If there's a card in your graveyard with embalm, the graveyard icon will appear on the battlefield. | 10 |
Exert | Some creatures offer you the chance to exert them when they attack. If you exert a creature, it won't untap during your next untap step. Read each exert card carefully to see what bonus you get if you exert it. You choose individually whether to exert each creature or not. | 10 |
