Magic: The Gathering(tm) is a collectible card game that takes place in an extensive fantasy multiverse. This multiverse consists of numerous dimensional planes, or worlds, each housing different forms of magic, inhabitants, civilizations, and conflicts.
Magic Duels is currently constructed around ten major planes of the multiverse. Each plane has a different magical orientation, aligned with a particular color--or combination of colors--of mana. This determines much of the flavor and mechanics of the cards which represent that particular plane. Additionally, some of the cards from the starter set feature characters and events from other planes of Magic's long history.
The planes selected for Magic Duels currently represent the worlds on which the five central planeswalkers gained the ability to planeswalk, as well as the first new plane each accesses in their travels.
